With this itinerary, we offer you a comprehensive and rejuvenating journey that combines the beauty of the historic centre with the unspoilt tranquillity of the countryside.
The journey is divided into two complementary stages:
- an urban stroll amongst the city’s green wonders, ideal for those who want to start their tour at a leisurely pace;
- A nature walk, recommended for those who enjoy gentle hiking, accessible by car, set within the Conversano Lakes Nature Reserve.
The Stages of the Route
1. Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian
The starting point of the itinerary, the Church of the Holy Doctors, is one of the churches most cherished by the people of Conversano. Every year, it becomes the heart of the patron saint’s festival, attracting pilgrims and worshippers from across the region. The interior, simple yet welcoming, is imbued with a strong sense of popular spirituality.
2. Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta
The Cathedral is one of the finest examples of Apulian Romanesque architecture. Built in the 12th century, it is renowned for its carved façade, its finely decorated portals and its evocative medieval crypt. 5. Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel
