Walk between stone and faith: a spiritual journey in the heart of Conversano
Let yourself be guided by a route that combines the beauty of religious art with the spirituality that fills the streets of Conversano
A journey through history and spirituality
Conversano is not only about history and architecture, but also living nature, open landscapes, and silences that speak. With this itinerary, we offer a complete and rejuvenating route, combining the beauty of the historic center with the untouched tranquility of the countryside.
The route is divided into two complementary parts:
- A urban walk among the city’s green wonders, ideal for those who want to start their itinerary slowly;
- A nature walk, recommended for lovers of light trekking, reachable by car, set within the Laghi di Conversano Nature Reserve.

The Stages of the Route

1. Church of San Cosma and Damiano
The starting point of the itinerary, the Church of the Santi Medici, is one of the most beloved churches by the people of Conversano. Every year it becomes the beating heart of the patronal feast, attracting pilgrims and worshippers from across the region. The interior, simple yet welcoming, is filled with deep popular spirituality.

2. Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption
The Cathedral is one of the most important examples of Puglian Romanesque. Built in the 12th century, it is renowned for its sculpted façade, finely decorated portals, and the evocative medieval crypt. A place where spirituality intertwines with architectural harmony, symbolizing the city and its history.

3. Monastery of Saint Benedict
Continuing towards the ancient heart of Conversano, you reach the monastic complex of San Benedetto. This fascinating place was for centuries an important center of female religious life. The millenary church, the Gothic bell tower, and the evocative medieval cloister invite reflection and contemplation.

4. the Church of St. Clare
An ancient monastic church of the Poor Clares, today it welcomes visitors as a cultural space. Its 18th-century stuccoes, light decorations, and intimate atmosphere make it an ideal stop to experience a moment of beauty and contemplation in the heart of the historic center.

5. Church of the Carmine
Small in size but rich in artistic details, this Baroque church is famous for its wooden statues, frescoes, and precious decorations. Linked to the devotion to the Madonna del Carmelo, it is an example of how faith has inspired sacred art in its most intimate and refined forms. With its intimate atmosphere and preserved works, it represents a fitting conclusion to this itinerary of faith and beauty.
